The Teacher Reset: 5 Ways to Truly Recharge This Summer
Summer is finally here and while the rest of the world might picture teachers living their best poolside life for two straight months, we know better. Yes, rest is essential (and long overdue!), but between the sunscreen and iced coffee, most of us are also quietly thinking about next year.
That’s why we created this “Recharge and Reimagine” blog series- because summer doesn’t have to be all or nothing. You can refill your cup and refocus your classroom.
In this three-part series, we’ll help you recharge your energy, prepare for the upcoming school year, and intentionally plan those crucial first-day routines. Whether you’re soaking up sunshine or just catching your breath, we’ve got you covered- with grace, purpose, and a fresh perspective for fall.

Why is it Important to Recharge?
Another school year is in the books- and you did it!
Now what? If your instinct is to dive straight into planning mode, hold up! This summer, it’s time to hit reset. Not just rest but real, intentional recharging.
Let’s be real—teaching takes a lot out of you. You give your time, your energy, your brainpower (and sometimes your snacks) all year long. That’s why summer isn’t just a break—it’s a chance to actually breathe. A recharge isn’t selfish, it’s necessary! You can’t pour into your students if your own cup is empty. So take the time to rest, reset, and do something just for you.
We believe the best back-to-school season starts with a summer that refuels you—mind, body, and spirit. Here are five easy (and actually doable) ways to recharge before the bell rings again.
1. Set Boundaries with Your “Teacher Brain”
You know that voice in your head that’s already planning bulletin boards and behavior charts in June? Yeah, that’s your teacher brain and it needs a timeout. It’s totally normal to start thinking ahead, but summer is your chance to step back and not live in school mode 24/7. Setting boundaries might mean muting school emails, leaving your planner on a shelf, or simply giving yourself permission to not be productive. Your brain deserves a breather just as much as your body does. School will be there when you’re ready.
It’s easy to slip into planning mode at Target’s dollar spot. But give yourself permission to not think about school for a while. Go out for lunch with friends, take a walk or soak in the summer sun, truly enjoy your time off.
2. Reflect Without Pressure
Some of our best reflections have happened over iced coffee during summer catch-ups. It’s when we finally slow down enough to talk through what actually worked last year—and what totally didn’t. Those conversations always left us feeling recharged and more intentional about the year ahead. A little reflection (and a lot of laughter) goes a long way.
Take 30 quiet minutes one morning to journal about:
- What worked really well this year?
- What do I never want to do again?
- How do I want my classroom to feel next year?

3. Try One New Thing That’s Just for You
Summer is the perfect time to try something new just for you. Stepping outside your usual routine can spark joy, build confidence, and remind you that you’re more than just your role in the classroom. Whether it’s exploring a new hobby, visiting a new place, or simply doing something that excites you, trying something new brings fresh energy and perspective. It’s a simple way to recharge and reconnect with yourself before the busy school year begins.
4. Connect with Other Educators (Casually)
Not in a PD setting —just real convos. Join a Facebook group, hop on Instagram DMs, or meet up with a teacher friend for iced coffee and venting. Sometimes a good teacher chat is more healing than a vacation.
5. Prep in Mini-Bursts (When You’re Ready)
Once your brain starts itching for back-to-school prep, lean in, but gently. Choose just one task at a time. Be on the lookout for our next blog post where we will talk about how some light summer prep can make a big difference in your school year.
You deserve this recharge! You don’t need to do more to be a great teacher. You just need space to breathe, reflect, and come back strong!
